In all of my yoga classes, except pregnancy yoga classes, we work with the following movements and postures.
Seated Movements
- Loosen the Body
- Release tension
- Tone the abdomen
- Calm the nervous system
- Counter stress
Back Bends
- Warm and invigorate the body
- Strengthen weak back muscles
- Counter ill effects of bad posture
- Develop healthy breathing
Twists and Abdominal Postures
- Encourages healthy digestion
- Promote good posture
- Protect against lower back pain
- Combat tiredness
Arm Balances
- Develop self sufficiency
- Encourage confidence
- Increase stamina
- Bolster upper body strength
- Reduce neck and shoulder tension
Inversions
- Boost the immune system
- Help balance hormones
- Lessens tiredness
- Develop concentration
Meditation and Relaxation
- A period of rest and relaxation which enables the body to digest the yoga practise to feel its full benefits.
When all of the above is practiced on a regular basis, even only for five minutes a day, the mind and body is then strong enough to enjoy the benefits of meditation and relaxation.
